After a long and stressful week, we decided on friday at 5 p.m. that we wanted to go camping. So in a haste we gathered our camping gear, stopped at Walmart for a little food, and headed out to East Fork Lake -a nearby state park-for a night in the great outdoors. We were a bit surprised at the campground when we arrived. I guess I am used to having a little more space and well, more nature. Instead, most of this campground looked like a city park that had concrete slabs for parking your car or camper and a picnic table with a fire pit nearby. I think there was much, much more grass than trees. Luckily it wasn't very busy, so we were able to nab one of the few spots that was back in the trees, so it seemed like we were camping in the woods-kind of. We were also surprised when we went to register and were told that it was $25 a night. When did it become so expensive to spend time in nature? If anyone knows of a more rugged(I don't need showers or mini-golf or playgrounds or amphitheaters, mostly just a place to pitch a tent and build a fire, maybe a trail to hike), less expensive camping area within a couple hours of Cincinnati, we would love to hear about it. Okay, so after we forked over the money(what's $25, really, when you just spent $2300 getting a new water line to your house), we decided that we were going to forget our dissapointment in the campgound and have fun. And that we did. We set up our HUGE tent, found firewood to build our fire and and roasted hot dogs for dinner and marshmallows for our s'mores. We utilized the nearby grassy areas to go out and look at the clear starry night. Sophie really liked to play and sleep in the tent, but after having a hard time getting to sleep declared at about 10:30 "I want to go home". She eventually fell asleep and slept pretty well snuggled in her sleeping bag. Bright and early saturday, Pat got up and went running while Sophie and I went on a short hike. We then cooked some eggs and bacon over the fire and at about noon, we packed up our camp and headed home. We had a great time, but or our next camping trip, I think we will plan on spending a few more days in a more natural campground.

How fun! I love camping! We were going to go camp at East Fork with the Andersons before they moved but never got a chance.. would you recommend it? Maybe not as rustic as somewhere else from the sounds of it.
Ah...camping! We haven't attempted it yet with the kids but I am missing it so maybe we will before it gets cold. Do you remember that time we camped out at mile marker 19? That was pretty rustic, eh? And the time we "camped" out on the church lawn in Panguitch! Good times!
Ah, Panguitch. I was just telling someone the other day that that road trip and our unplanned camping spots was probably the craziest thing I have ever done.
